Factoría offers an annual residency program through which different international artists are selected and integrated into on-site projects. The selection process is overseen by an advisory committee of specialists in different disciplines, namely: new technologies, sound experimentation, design, audiovisual creation and urban development. Once selected, the artists are divided into separate work groups in which multidisciplinary and transverse organization criteria predominate: a video artist, a musician and an architect; a writer, a plastic artist and an urban developer. In this way, their investigations are guaranteed to explore interstitial territory, merging artistic, creative and cultural objects in concrete urban contexts, Compostela and Havana, but from a global perspective.

Nevertheless, the fundamental role of the residents is to promote, stimulate and activate a stable network of thought and collaboration that sustains the daily dynamic of the centre’s work and activities. This network is comprised of young artists who have been awarded annual Factoría scholarships to receive the training which they themselves facilitate. The idea is to emphasize the notion of creation as a broadly collective process: the scholarship holders learn through practical execution and receive instruction by a communicative process made possible by themselves. Theory and praxis on the same level, two-way teaching and learning, and above all, a definite research outline with clearly marked parameters following a training/work/research plan determined by and coordinated with Factoría consultants.

In short, a permanent reflection space whose goal is to redirect the pulse of today’s society and culture into concrete projects, activating the infinite creative paths breaking through the surface of contemporary society.
